Cash for
Work
Project
Overview: Bangladesh
is a developing country but accordance to the density of population
it is tremendous threat for the society, community, and also
for Bangladesh. It is overlook that most of the people are living
under poverty which affects fall in our economy and also individual
life. Though Bangladesh has made significant progress in human
development indicators in the last decade, but increase in prices
of basic food commodities during the last few months has exposed
the poorest segments of the population in the country to severe
pressure with concerns of a worsening food security because
of little earning and unemployment of the population.
Employment generation is one of
the programmes under WFP's Emergency Operation targeted to vulnerable
groups affected by high food prices and natural disasters in
the country. EG activities will develop / rehabilitate drainage
and irrigation infrastructures: embankments; rural market access
roads, homestead raising, ground rising for flood shelters,
emergency livestock paddocks and raised seed- beds.
The WFP therefore has undertaken
the emergency operation (EMOP1078.0) with an overall goal to
complement the government of Bangladesh safety net programmes
to alleviate the impact of high food prices, starving particularly
through targeted program Employment Generation.
In Bagerhat district in two upazila Shornonkhola and Mongla
this program is running
Project Objectives:
The overall objective is to raise
agricultural productivity in Bangladesh, contribute to self
sufficiency and mitigate current and future vulnerabilities
to high food prices and food insecurity.
Cash assistance:
With the assistance of WFP in Bagerhat district in two upazila's
beneficiaries are getting the privilege to work for the short
time, they were under privilege and also they were being deprived
from the beginning of their life. It is said that now caseload
are free from negative thinking, they are happy to get such kinds
of work because they have no need to starve now. It was told that
vulnerable people got the regenerate life to survive in the society.
They got the new version of life. Meantime it was very significant
to offer such project because they have no availability of job.
Many people were jobless. We are also so much happy to obey our
responsibilities and nicely we completed our first phase.
Surveys-
Baselines, marketing. Food needs assessment. Nutrition etc:
Before doing the survey we had to think with the concentration
because wrong observation may bring the penalty. So through PRA
we selected the beneficiaries and scheme. According to the category
we did the survey first and most vulnerable peoples name was enrolled
in the project. The initiative step was taken after doing the
survey, because some of the places of Bangladesh people were not
getting food, education, medicine, and they were living under
privilege, really it was heart touching. So after doing the survey
and PRA we visited our selected beneficiaries' house so that right
person may get the privilege to work here. After selecting the
beneficiaries all the participants' names were endorsed by LGED
and submitted to WFP. It was our visualization that it was significant
to provide such help to the poorest people because if they get
such kinds of help they will get new life and get the liberation
to acquire the education and survive with the nourishment. In
the remote area people can not feed properly because parents can
not earn their demand as a result family members are starving.
So it is big help for them to get such help to expand their life
with the hope.
Key
factors affecting food security: Though Bangladesh
is a developing country but it has numerous problem and these
are remaining in every aspect of life. Present time it is big
threat for Bangladesh that big savage/ SIDR has gone and people
lost their living hope and also it is our economical inflation
problem. In the market commodities price is high and different
disaster is going on in Bangladesh. Some of the people are not
getting their fundamental needs and deprived from their daily
food. Really it is heart touching issue. Few days ago an unwelcome
Aila took all the things and made them hopeless. Thousands and
thousands people became shelter less lost their asset. They had
no way to survive in the society. But it is big consolation that
with the assistance of WFP, RRF implemented the project Employment
Generation for the vulnerable people in the society. And beneficiaries
got a job for while to exist in the society.
Project
implementation:
Implementation arrangements: As an implementing
partner we were so much concern about our preceding activities
and never want to manifest our dereliction about our errands.
Always we tried to implement the given responsibilities. When
we started our journey we took it as a challenge and working with
the action plan. Before starting our project we informed to the
deputy commissioner, Executive Engineer LGED, Upazila nirbahi
office, Upazila Engineer LGED and all the chairman and member
so that we can furnish our programme efficiently. Totally our
arrangement was commendable and with heart and soul we tried to
accomplish the project. Our appointed staff always taking care
for mollifying our project. And also our M&E team monitored
so that all the activaties may run smoothly. Our target was to
develop our society, community as well as Bangladesh and vulnerable
people may augment their life for the future. It was our visualization
to organize a nice program and implement with the authenticity.
It was vital role
to select the beneficiaries. Before selecting the beneficiaries
we had to think with the deliberation. Because right person should
get the right things. In our every aspect we took challenge to
select the right beneficiaries. Before selecting the beneficiaries
we did the survey and followed the rule which is given to the
guide line. Though we selected our beneficiaries and scheme through
PRA but we also checked the selected beneficiaries. Ultimately
we enrolled them and endorsed by the LGED and submitted to WFP
office. And it was the satisfaction that with the authenticity
we enrolled the apt beneficiaries. And ultimately we overcome
our first phase of this project.

Total
Distribution:
In the year of 2009 our total distribution was 4,43,15,400 (Four
Crore Fourty Three lakh Fifteen Thousands Four Hundred. The sated
amount was being distributed to the field. Beneficiaries are so
happy to get this job. Many improvement tasks have been accomplished
through CFW project.

everybody wants to live in the society with the fundamental needs
but for different problem it may be the intricate to survive in
the society. Shoronkhola upazila is one of the remote and deprived
areas where people are living under poverty. Because according
to the density of population food and other necessary commodities
are not available and also most of the people are jobless. Though
it is remote and water tiding area but people wants live in peace
but some time it is sophisticated because two years ago SIDR flows
and people lost everything again and Aila took place to the Shoronkhola
.But it is their consolation that WFP and RRF expanded their helping
hand for the affected people who lost everything. And it is their
hearty peace WFP provided shot time job for the job less people.
According to the Kamal Boyati "We wants to give our thankfulness
to WFP and RRF for their marvelous work. Because we had no hope
to live in the society, every moment we have to face the natural
