Rural
Housing
Bangladesh
is one of the least developed countries in Southeast Asia having
a large population, estimated at nearly 140 million living on
an area of 122000 sq km. A large number of people do not have
employment opportunities and the most of them are unskilled
laborers who lack permanent job opportunities in the labour
market. Due to their poverty, their houses are makeshift and
can hardly withstand floods or tornadoes. The rural poor are
virtually without proper shelter. Most of them live in thatched
houses which can hardly withstand the vicissitudes of nature.
Since the rural poor do not have enough resources in hand, they
are unable to construct decent houses to live in. To improve
their living conditions and secure the life of the poor people,
RRF has taken the step to help the poor people to build house
with the financial support of Bangladesh Bank's Grehayhn Tahabil.
Principle:
Shelter
is a fundamental need of the human being and everyone is entitled
to have an adequate house to live.
