Bangladesh Chalice
Mission Journey
November 16 - 30, 2010
A group of 13 visitors came from Canada on
behalf of Chalice on 16th November 2010 in Jessore, Bangladesh.
The mission of the trip was to visit a Sponsor Site in the
developing world like Bangladesh, to meet with the sponsor
children and families and also visit some of the famous places.
On 17th November the group of visitors was
received with a small reception by RRF staffs, sponsored children
and guardians at the RRF Training and Resource Centre.
Next day they went to Khulna district for
two days visit in the sponsor families and schools run by
RRF. They were warmly welcomed with lots of flowers and garlands
with smiling faces. The group met with some of the parents
of sponsored children at slum area of Khulna district. After
that they went to the school named Barnamala Bidyapith at
Sonadanga, Khulna. There the students presented a small cultural
program with singing, dancing and other enjoyable activities.
From there we take them to Mariapolli, Bagerhat where they
also met the sponsored beneficiaries. The visitors distributed
some gifts they brought from Canada as token of love among
the young children. On 19th November the group went to visit
Sundarban, the biggest mangrove forest in the world.
It was on 20th November that the visitors
went to Mujibnagor to visit another school named Fr. Eugene
O'Leary School. It was funded by Chalice and the sponsors
and most of the students were the sponsored children of Jessore
Sponsor Site. There the visitors also met with some sponsored
families and visited some of the local famous places.
On 21st November, the visitors went to Shimulia
early in the morning. They joined and celebrated the Holy
Mass at Shimulia Holy Rosary Church. After the mass they visited
Barnamala Bidyapith, Kamarpara. There they visited different
classes and meet the children in their class rooms. After
that they visited Kamarpara and Shimulia Villages, meet the
community people. Some sponsors meet their sponsored children
and their families individually. They visited the Shimulia
graveyard, Church primary school. After that they attended
a material distribution ceremony in Shimulia Church compound.
They distributed the food packages among the elderly people,
gifts among the community poor, blankets among the sponsored
children. In the evening they joined a welcome ceremony followed
by cultural program. It was a wonderful day for the visitors
as well as the host.
The group of visitors had an enjoyable day
with the students having a picnic at a park near Jessore town
on 22nd November. They as well as the children participated
at different games and competition and got prizes. The Canadian
visitors also distributed small gifts among the children and
everyone had a great time together.
From 23rd November to 29th November the group
had a trip to visit Cox's Bazar, St. Martin Island and some
famous places at Dhaka. On 30th November the visitors left
Bangladesh for Canada. They really enjoyed this unique opportunity
to have a close look at Chalice's Mission.
